Purpose:

Neighbors and Newcomers of Cumberland County, Tennessee is organized for the fellowship of its members, and to promote charitable and educational causes in the community, including contributions to charitable organizations in Cumberland County, Tennessee. We are a 501(c)(4) organization. Membership in Neighbors and Newcomers is available to any resident of Cumberland County, Tennessee who is interested in the purpose and objectives of our organization and who regularly pays dues.

The Club is a non-profit organization.

Our Objectives:

To provide an immediate opportunity for Members to become acquainted with others in the neighborhood and community with an atmosphere of friendliness and goodwill for Club members.

To provide opportunities for the members to increase their knowledge and awareness of the surrounding area and the State of Tennessee.

To provide a platform where-by the Club can provide charitable contributions for the benefit of residents, businesses, and organizations in Cumberland County, Tennessee.

History

In 1983, twenty-three women, then members of Welcome Wagon, formed an organization which would allow them to continue their friendship in their new home of Cumberland County, Tennessee. By 1984 the core group developed a Constitution and By-Laws, recruited members and declared themselves an organization and became; Neighbors and Newcomers of Cumberland County. It is with pleasure and pride that Neighbors and Newcomers celebrated our 35th Anniversary in March 2020 and continues its mantra of; “meet a stranger,
make a friend”.

Oversight:

Neighbors and Newcomers of Cumberland County is managed by a Board of elected officers and chairpersons of committees.

Meetings:

We have at least eight (8) regular meetings a year, at which Club business is transacted. Reports are made by committee chairs and special interest groups either by verbal report at meetings, or posted on the Club’s website, so that all Club members will be informed of the Club’s activities.

Regular meeting of the Club are on the Fourth (4th) Thursday of each month, EXCEPT the November and December meetings, which are combined and held on a Thursday in December. Special meetings may be called when necessary. Meetings of the Officers and Board of Directors are held as needed.

The May meeting of the Club, when new officers are installed, is referred to as our Annual Meeting. November and December meetings are combined due to holidays.

Policy:

We do not discriminate against prospective Members because of race, color, creed, national origin, sex, income, marital status, educational background, or any other factor. The Club is not affiliated with any civic, political, or commercial organization.

General Membership:

All paid-up Members will be considered as having active Membership status for the coming fiscal year. Each paid-up Member will have the privilege of one vote. Members are expected to attend regularly scheduled meetings, and to participate in the activities of the Club.

Dues for the current year should be paid by the October meeting. If a member wishes to make a monthly reservation and dues have not been paid, the reservations chairperson will accept the reservation and remind them that the dues are not up to date, and payment will need to be made with the lunch payment at the meeting they will be attending.

One meeting may be attended as a guest. At the second meeting attended, the person is expected to join and pay dues.
